Position Available in Forensics

Fulltime, renewable non-tenure track position as Assistant Director of Forensics/Lecturer in Speech (Department of Theatre and Speech).

MA (or ADB) in Communication or related field preferred. Demonstrated success in forensics coaching and organization is essential. Organize and coach large (20+), highly competitive Individual Events team. Probability of teaching one course per semester beyond Forensics, dependent on curricular needs. Courses taught could vary depending on expertise, but would certainly include Public Speaking and Oral Interpretation.

The Individual Events Team is active on both regional and national circuits, and it often works in tandem with our Debate Team. Salary, rank and benefits are dependant on experience and degree, but are competitive. Position begins August of 2008.

Position Available in Music

Hillsdale College is accepting applications for a tenure track, Assistant Professor of Music History to begin in August, 2008.  Candidates must be able to teach a broad range of undergraduate courses in the area of Music History and must be able to work with music majors and non-music majors in a Liberal Arts setting.  Ph.D. preferred, ABD considered.  Review of applications will begin February 25, 2008 and will continue until the position has been filled.

Position Available in Biology

The purpose of the Hillsdale College Biology Department is to graduate students who know how to conduct science, understand man’s knowledge of the measurable living world, and are prepared for successful careers in biology.  The department offers diverse courses ranging from molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, and botany, to organismal biology, freshwater biology, and  ecology.   The department is housed in the Dow Science center, built in 1996, the existing Strosacker Science center, and the newly constructed Moss Science Wing, scheduled to open in January of 2008.  It also uses Slayton Arboretum, located on campus, and the 685-acre G.H. Gordon Biological Station in northern Michigan as outdoor laboratories. Additional opportunities are available during the summer, such as a marine biology course offering in the Florida Keys, a conservation genetics internship in South Africa, and a summer internship program (called LAUREATES) sponsored by the science division. 

The Biology Department at Hillsdale College is seeking a broadly trained Biologist / Population Geneticist.  The successful candidate for this tenure-track position, at the assistant professor rank, must demonstrate effective design and teaching of undergraduate classes from introductory non-majors to upper level biology majors, as well as an ability to supervise undergraduate senior thesis research.  Teaching experience required, Ph.D. expected and post-doctoral experience is desirable.  The candidate will be capable of participating in the teaching of BIO 200 (Evolution and Biological Diversity), BIO 300 (Molecular and Cell Biology), and developing a 1-hour seminar course in evolution, as well as an upper level course (3-4 credit hrs) in Bioinformatics or Population Genetics.  Familiarity with endpoint as well as real-time PCR and both DNA fragment and sequence analysis using an ABI 3130 Gene Analyzer will be a plus.

Position Available in Mathematics

Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in Mathematics at the assistant professor level beginning in August 2008.

Candidates are required to have or to be near completion of a Ph. D. in mathematics and to be willing to teach various undergraduate mathematics courses.

Candidates must also have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate mathematics.  Duties include a three-course load per semester teaching at all levels of undergraduate mathematics.  The Department offers majors in both mathematics and computational mathematics.

Position Available in the Economics and Business Department

Hillsdale College invites applications for a tenure-track position beginning August 2008 in the Economics and Business Department.  Undergraduate courses to be taught include Financial Management, Advanced Corporate Finance, and Options and Futures.  The typical teaching is three courses per semester.  College service includes advising students and curriculum development and assessment.  A strong research program is highly desired but not required.  Salary depends on experience.  A Ph.D. in finance, financial economics, or related field is required (ABDs will also be considered with an obligation to promptly complete all degree requirements).  Applicants with practical business experience are encouraged to apply.
