CENTRAL HALL

imageCentral Hall, the historic focal point of campus, holds many administrative offices, including the Business offices, Admissions, Financial Aid, the Deans’ offices and the Registrar’s office.  The campus switchboard at (517) 437-7341 can provide individual extension numbers for the various offices and buildings on campus. Central Hall is open on business days from 8:30 a.m. – noon and 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

 

 

MOSS HALL

Moss HallCompleted in 2000, Moss Hall is named for Hillsdale College Trustee Joe Moss and his wife, Nena.  Located on the west side of Central Hall, Moss Hall also holds many administrative offices.  It houses the offices of the President, Provost, External Affairs, Institutional Advancement and the Mailroom/Copy Center. DELP HALL

Also completed in 2000, Delp Hall is named in honor of the late John J. Delp and his family.  Delp Hall, on the east side of Central Hall, houses faculty offices in the English, French, German, Spanish, Philosophy and Religion, and History and Political Science Departments.  Personnel in Delp Hall can be reached by calling Denise Nivison at (517) 607-2418.

 

 

 

KENDALL HALL

Kendall Hall, dedicated in 2005, honors Hillsdale friends Harry and Marguerite Kendall.  Located to the southwest of Central Hall, Kendall Hall holds classroom spaces, lecture halls, seminar rooms and faculty offices for the Psychology, Sociology and Classical Studies Departments, among others.  It also features state-of-the-art spaces for the Psychology Department, including labs, observation rooms and a library.  Personnel in Kendall Hall can be reached by calling the campus switchboard at (517) 437-7341.

 

 

LANE HALL

Lane Hall was dedicated in 2005 and is named for its benefactor, Robert M. Lane.  Located to the southeast of Central Hall, it holds classroom spaces, lecture halls, seminar rooms and faculty offices for the Economics, Business Administration and Education Departments, among others. STROSACKER SCIENCE CENTER AND MOSS LABORATORY WING

imageStrosacker Science Center holds classrooms, laboratories, special research areas and computer resources for the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Departments.  The Joseph H. THE HERBERT HENRY DOW SCIENCE BUILDING

Dedicated in 1996, the Dow Science Building holds classrooms, laboratories, special research areas and computer resources for the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Departments.  The building also houses 14 faculty offices. HOWARD MUSIC HALL

Dedicated in 2003, this building houses the Department of Music and bears the names of its benefactors, John E.N. and Dede Howard.  Howard Music Hall contains the McNamara Rehearsal Hall, Conrad Recital Hall, faculty offices, practice rooms, a jazz studio, a percussion studio and a classroom.  Personnel in Howard Music Hall can be reached by dialing the campus switchboard at (517) 437-7341.

 

 

SAGE CENTER FOR THE ARTS

Completed in 1992, the Sage Center for the Arts houses the Art, Theatre and Speech Departments.  The heart of the building is Markel Auditorium, a 353-seat amphitheatre complete with a 40-foot thrust stage and an orchestra pit that can be raised or lowered.  In addition to classrooms and faculty offices, Sage Center for the Arts features three large art studios, a photography lab, a graphic design lab, a performance/dance studio, a theatre design studio, a scene shop, prop storage facilities, a costume shop, makeup and dressing rooms, lighting catwalks and a fully computerized control center for sound, lighting, radio production and audio and video recording.  Daughtrey Gallery, which has hosted numerous professional exhibits as well as works by Hillsdale faculty and students, is contained in the building as well.  Personnel in Sage Center for the Arts may be reached by dialing (517) 607-2410.

DOW LEADERSHIP CENTER

The Dow Leadership Center is a division of Hillsdale College located on the northwest corner of the campus quad. The Dow Leadership Center is home to one of the nation’s top leadership training programs and is the center for six major business activities: (1) hotel and conference facility, a positive and uncommon business retreat environment; (2) College services, providing the College 24-hour communication, hosting meetings, banquets and guests for the campus community; (3) executive education seminars for the American business community; (4) executive education for College administrative staff; (5) Student Leadership Workshops for student leaders on campus; and (6) The Rockwell Lake Lodge, a newly constructed 16,000-square-foot lodge, with ten guest suites, located on the 685 acres of the G.H. Gordon Biological Station near Luther, Michigan. 

Guest rooms are available to parents, alumni and friends. Unless students’ parents are registered for guest rooms, students must gain permission from the Vice President for Student Affairs before renting or entering any guest room. The Dow Center can be reached by dialing (517) 437-3311.

 

 

MICHAEL ALEX MOSSEY LIBRARY

The Mossey Library boasts a book collection of over 360,000 volumes, 24,000 electronic books, 505,000 microforms, 210,000 books, 11,500 audio-visual items and over 11,000 periodical subscriptions in various formats that include numerous full-text computer file titles.  These collections are supplemented by more than 58 million items available through inter-library loan from over 54,000 libraries in 108 countries within the OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) as well as access to the collections of Michigan libraries that participate in the Michigan eLibrary (MeL) consortium.  Five professional librarians, five support staff and over 25 student assistants staff the library.  They are available to assist students.  Mossey Library is located northeast of Central Hall and can be reached by calling (517) 607-2701.

GREWCOCK STUDENT UNION

imageDedicated in January 2008, the Grewcock Student Union bears the names of benefactors William L. and Berniece E. Grewcock. The two-story structure is located adjacent to Mossey Library and connected to it via Benge Colonnade. Grewcock Student Union features the Knorr Family Dining Room, Richardson Commons, A.J.’s Café 1844, the Hillsdale College Bookstore, the Student Activities Director’s office, student publication offices, a formal lounge and conference room, a TV lounge and the student mail center. KNORR STUDENT CENTER

The Knorr Student Center is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m.  The Knorr Center holds the student lounge, Information Technology Services office, computer labs, the Career Services Office and Volunteer Services and Chaplain’s Office.

 

 

 

 

ROCHE SPORTS COMPLEX

The 60,000-square-foot Jesse Philips Arena contains a six-lane, 200-meter running track, a basketball and volleyball arena and four tennis courts. In addition, the building houses the John “Jack” McAvoy Natatorium, a combination pool/diving area, an exercise physiology and sports medicine facility, three racquetball courts, extensive locker room facilities, a weight room, a fitness room and coaching and administrative offices. The stadium, with a seating capacity of 7,000, includes Muddy Waters Field and Herrick Track, with a Pro Grass Artificial Surface football field and all-weather Mondo™ eight-lane running track. The College also has eight surfaced outdoor tennis courts. Students are welcome to use all of the facilities during the open hours.  Students need to bring their student identification cards with them when they use the Sports Complex. AMBLER HEALTH CENTER

Located at 183 Hillsdale Street in the Ambler House, the Health and Wellness Center offers medical and mental health services.  A registered nurse is on duty Monday through Friday from 9am to 3pm and can be reached at (517) 607-4367. A doctor is available an hour each day, Monday through Friday.  Call the Center at (517) 607-4368 to set up an appointment with the doctor or one of our counseling staff.

 

 

FOWLER MAINTENANCE BUILDING

Named in honor of retired Vice President for Administration F. LaMar “Tony” Fowler, the Fowler Maintenance Building houses the offices of the Physical Plant, including buildings, grounds and custodial services, and Campus Safety, Security and Services, including fleet, shuttle, shipping and receiving services.  Personnel in the Fowler Maintenance Building may be reached by dialing the campus switchboard at (517) 437-7341.

 

 

MARY PROCTOR RANDALL PRESCHOOL

Mary Proctor Randall Preschool is a tuition school that has been in operation since 1929.  The current building was completed in 1967 and funded by the Hillsdale College Board of Women Commissioners, of whom Mary Proctor Randall was a member.  Experts in the field have designated the Preschool a “model for the nation.”  It has study rooms, playrooms, a kitchen, an observation balcony and an outdoor playhouse.  Children are taught by members of Hillsdale College’s Department of Teacher Education.  Qualified college students can obtain course credit for supervised instruction at the Preschool.  Personnel at the Preschool may be reached by dialing (517) 439-0154.

 

 

HILLSDALE ACADEMY

imageFounded in 1990, Hillsdale Academy serves as a model kindergarten-through 12th-grade school.  Under the auspices of Hillsdale College, the Academy bases its curriculum on a solid grounding in fundamental academic skills, an exploration of the arts and sciences and an understanding of the foundational tenets of our Judeo-Christian and Greco-Roman heritage.  The Academy’s current building was completed in 1998 and is located southeast of the Sports Complex.  Personnel at Hillsdale Academy may be reached by dialing (517) 439-8644.
