Supplementary Materials

  1. Writing sample: A sample of written work that best conveys the applicant’s aptitude for graduate study at Hillsdale.
  2. Statement of interest: A concise statement of interest which should include a short intellectual autobiography – a statement of the applicant’s intellectual development and how it influenced the applicant’s desire to study in Hillsdale’s graduate program. It should not exceed 500 words.

While an electronic format is preferred, if it is not available please write Supplemenatary Materials on the back of an envelope and mail the Writing Sample and the Statement of Interest to the Graduate School.

Please have the following documents sent directly to the Graduate School:

  1. Official GRE test scores (Institution Code 1295, sent directly from the testing agency). To ensure that scores are received by the January 15 deadline, applicants are strongly encouraged to take the GRE no later than the week before Christmas.
  2. Official transcripts (sent directly from all graduate and undergraduate institutions where you have studied).

International Students

All international students whose native language is not English must have either:

  1. An official TOEFL score (Institution Code 1295, sent directly from the testing agency) OR
  2. A degree from an English-speaking institution.

Application Fee

There is a $25 application fee. Please make checks out to “Hillsdale College” and mail to the address below. You may pay via credit card over the phone at 517-607-2483.

Deadlines

  • For the Fall semester, applications must be completed by January 15. Notifications will be sent out no later than March 1.
  • For the Spring semester, applications must be completed by October 15. Notifications will be sent out no later than November 15. (M.A. only)

Note: Within 72 hours of submitting your application online, you should receive an email acknowledging the submission. If you do not receive the acknowledgment within this time, please contact the Graduate School. When your application file has been completed with the receipt of all necessary letters and supplemental materials, you will also receive an acknowledgment. No application should be considered complete until this acknowledgment has been received.
