Overview

The biology curriculum at Hillsdale College is aimed at providing a broad foundation for subsequent specialized training in graduate or professional schools, for a career in teaching, or as a liberal arts background for a career in industry. Seven faculty members provide an unusually diverse curriculum, including:

  • Entomology & Conservation
  • Conservation Genetics
  • Animal Behavior and Physiology
  • Molecular Genetics & Microbial Biology
  • Cellular Biology
  • Botany
  • Aquatic Ecology and Palaeoecology

In addition to their coursework, all biology majors conduct independent research on a topic of the student's choosing, utilizing state of the art facilities and equipment. Additionally, the department uses the G. H. Gordon Biological Station, Slayton Arboretum, and Lakes Winona and Barber as outdoor laboratories.
