Chemistry

Overview

The chemistry curriculum at Hillsdale prepares students for careers in chemical research, graduate study in chemistry and biochemistry, programs in medicine, dentistry, and allied health fields, and for teaching chemistry at the secondary level. The rigorous curriculum meets the American Chemical Society (ACS) guidelines for an approved undergraduate chemistry program.

As a small private college, Hillsdale offers the advantages of small classes, hands-on laboratory experience and personal attention. Faculty are able to become familiar with each student's strengths and weaknesses and to provide help on an individual basis. Each student must carry out their own, original research and complete a senior thesis describing their findings. Theses may be presented at the regional and national meetings of various student organizations.

If you have questions about the Chemistry Department, please email Mark Nussbaum, Chair, or call (517) 607-2612.
