Kappa Phi Kappa, the national Education honorary society founded in 1922, no longer exists.  Although the Kappa Phi Kappa chapter at Hillsdale College honors the history of the former national society and has adopted its core principles, the chapter is a separate and discrete organization with no formal connections beyond the College.  The purpose of the local Kappa Phi Kappa organization is to provide students of academic accomplishment and strong moral character with an honorary society whose primary purpose is to encourage the study of education and excellence in teaching.  Kappa Phi Kappa endeavors to promote in its members awareness of the central issues in education as well as an appreciation of the moral and philosophical foundations of distinguished pedagogy.  In addition, Kappa Phi Kappa encourages academic excellence, moral responsibility, and productive involvement in the surrounding community and its schools.

The qualifications for membership are:

• Admission to the Teacher Education Program**
• A 3.0 or higher grade point average in collegiate studies
• Continued good standing as a student of Hillsdale College.

**Admission to the Teacher Education Program may be waived if the applicant:

• Intends to earn a teaching certificate at another college or university
• Maintains a 3.3 or higher grade point average
• Remains in good standing as a student of Hillsdale College
• Has the support of at least three quarters of the Executive Council
• Has the support of at least two thirds of the general membership
• Has successfully completed at least one course in Education
• Has attained junior standing at Hillsdale College.
