Mary Proctor Randall Preschool, founded in 1929, has been operated since 1967 by Hillsdale College through its Department of Teacher Education.  Most courses leading to the Early Childhood Education endorsement on the State of Michigan's Elementary Teaching Certificate are taught by the preschool staff.  College students enrolled in these courses meet requirements by working with Preschool children under the supervision of their college instructors.

The standard goals for Mary Proctor Randall Laboratory Preschool are three-fold: (1) to be a teacher training facility that meets its program goals and objectives through laboratory components in required coursework; (2) to implement a comprehensive program that emphasizes basic skills in logical concepts, language and literature, moral character and civic responsibilities within a well structured learning day; and (3) to provide a model preschool program that exemplifies the virtues of Western culture.
