Mission Statement 

In addition to the purposes noted in the College Mission Statement, the Department of English at Hillsdale College seeks to develop in its students the skills of intelligent reading and effective writing, a deepened love for literature, an appreciation for certain seminal works in the Western literary tradition, and--in its majors--a solid grounding in English and American literature.

Every year, Hillsdale's English department brings a different visiting writer to campus.
