The unexpected death of Herbert H. Dow II in 1996 cost America not only an uncommonly thoughtful advocate of American capitalism, but also a visionary philanthropist dedicated to the betterment of American life. Mr. Dow believed that Americans want and deserve a truthful, ethical news media dedicated to factual, fair and comprehensive reporting that would furnish citizens the information necessary to make intelligent decisions regarding the nation, their families and their communities.
