Mathematics & Computer Science

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers majors in mathematics and computational mathematics and minors in mathematics, computational mathematics and computer science.

We stress modern trends in mathematics, with a reasonable blend of the old and the new. Newer topics are included along with important traditional concepts. Not only is mathematics, with its logical approach and precision, an important part of our culture in its own right, but it is also important for its numerous applications. For these reasons the courses are offered for those interested in the cultural values of the subject as well as those who need mathematics for professional programs.

In the Eaton Computer Lab, 24 Intel-based iMac computers, six Sun Microsystem UNIX computers, and several other PowerMac computers are available for student use. Various software packages are available on these computers, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, graphics, statistics, and mathematical applications.
