A major in philosophy requires a minimum of 27 semester hours (not including PHL 105), including:
PHL 211 Ancient Philosophy
PHL 212 Medieval Philosophy
PHL 213 Modern Philosophy
and either
MTH 303 Symbolic Logic
PHL 107 Introduction to Logic
and 15 hours of electives
Electives may include the following:

PHL 450 Social and Political Philosophy
at least one from
PHL 340 Twentieth-Century Continental Philosophy
PHL 341 Twentieth-Century Analytic Philosophy
PHL 342 Issues in Contemporary Epistemology

PHL 350 Philosophy of Law
PHL 410 Philosophy of Mind
PHL 420 Philosophy of Religion
PHL 451 Philosophy of Science
and at least one
PHL 493 Seminar in Philosophy
Majors must also pass a written comprehensive exam.
Students who take Philosophy 575, complete an “A-level” thesis and comprehensive exam, and have at least a 3.400 grade-point average in their philosophy major will graduate with honors in philosophy. Students planning to attend graduate school are urged to try for honors:
