A physics minor is a highly desirable addition to the course of study for all other majors. The physics minor will augment the course work taken by mathematics, chemistry and biology majors because of the close relationship of physics to these subjects.
A physics minor requires 21 hours, including:
PHY 201 University Physics I
PHY 202 University Physics II
PHY 203 University Physics III
The remaining six hours are to be chosen from physics courses required for the major.
Physics Minor with Secondary Teaching Endorsement
The required courses for a physics minor with a physics endorsement at Hillsdale College are: Physics 120 (or 140), 201, 202, 203, 459, 597 and six credit hours chosen from Physics 360, 421, 451, 505, 507 and 510. This requires 26 credit hours in physics. (If a student has already taken Physics 101 and 102, he or she may complete the minor by taking Physics 120 (or 140), 201, 202, 203, 459 and 597. This requires 30 credit hours in physics.) Education and general requirements mentioned under the Physics Major with Secondary Teaching Endorsement on the Physics Major page apply. Required cognates are Biology 318 (or 350) and Mathematics 213 and 214.
