Planning Presentation

1. Everything on a slide should support the theme
  • animation
  • background choice
  • colors
  • text
  • clipart
  • screen shots

2. Hyperlinks can be added to presentations for:

  • supplemental material
  • question anticipation
  • skip slides if you are running out of time
  • plan B's for links to the Internet

but you need to be aware of the associated risks.

3. Simple is often better.

4. Dimming is an excellent technique if you want to give avid note takers a chance to go back over bullet points, but want the majority of your listeners to follow along with you.

5. Slides can always use improvement. Second opinions are often lifesavers.

6. The lighter color in vertical gradient backgrounds should be at the top of the slide and the darker at the bottom.

7. Timed objects can be impressive but don't go overboard and risk the presentation getting away from you.

8. Transitionary slides can be useful in setting the stage for your presentation points and makes for natural question breaks.

9. Rather than presenting a complicated slide, use builds to introduce the information into manageable chunks.

10. You do not have to read everything that is on your slide.

11. Copy Excel Charts into PowerPoint rather than creating them inside PowerPoint.
