Pat Chartrand, Systems Administrator
Server Space

Hillsdale College provides server space via the P, S, T and R Drives as well as personal student directories. Data stored on the P, S, T and R Drives is automatically backed up and is significantly more secure than data stored on floppy or zip disks. Permissions can be set to folders located on these drives so that multiple users can access the same file each from their own computer. This makes sharing data both convenient and secure. Passwords to personal computers should NEVER be shared. You should already have access to all these drives. You can request additional folders on the S, T, and R Drives.

The P Drive:

(Personal Directories or Users Drive)

An area on the Network designed for storing individual information not to be shared with anyone other than the creator. This area is identical to 'My Documents'.

The S Drive:

(Department Sharing Drive)

An area on the Network designed for sharing information between persons in the same department.

The T Drive:

(Business Teams)

An area on the Network designed for sharing information between persons in different departments. Note: Students can see a TA folder within the T Drive. This is a space where departments can share information with students.

The R Drive:

(Public Read-Only)

Area on the Network designed for the retrieval of information to faculty and staff campus wide. Nothing on this drive can be altered by anyone other than the creator (hence its name- read only).

To request space on the network drives, fill out the form or email Pat Chartrand and include the information below.

  1. Specify which drive you would like to use.
  2. State your department name.
  3. State the folder owner's name.
  4. State the name of the folder to be created.
  5. Submit a list of persons (first and last name) who need access to the folder.

Once the folder is created by Network/Systems Administrator, Pat Chartrand, subfolders may be created by those who have been granted access to that folder. Additional permissions for the subfolders may be requested.
