In some cases, you may need to grant control of your desktop to an ITS support technician so that they can assist you. Instructions for your operating system are below.

Microsoft Windows

Click Start, All Programs, Help Desk, Remote Control, then Share My Desktop. You can copy this shortcut to the desktop for more convenient access.

In the next window, click OK to begin sharing your desktop.

When the support technician asks for your host name, read them the name that appears in your window.

The support technician will then connect to the machine. When you are done being assisted, right click the VNC icon in the system tray and click Close.

Apple Macintosh

In the event you need assistance, you can turn on the Help Desk feature located under the Apple menu. After the initial setup, using this program is only a matter of running the application when needed. To begin a Remote Control session, follow the steps below.

1. From the Apple Menu, select Helpdesk, Remote Control and click on VNC.

2. Read the IP address to the support technician.

Note: For your security, it is important to close VNC when it is not needed. If the program is running, VNC will appear in the application menu. To turn it off, select VNC and then select Quit from the File menu.
