World Congress of Families Secretary to Join Faculty
Hillsdale, Michigan — Hillsdale College President Larry P. Arnn announced the World Congress of Families International Secretary, Allan C. Carlson, will be a visiting professor of political science and history beginning in the fall 2008 term.
Arnn stated: “We are delighted to welcome Professor Carlson as a colleague and a teacher. In the public arena and in the classroom, Professor Carlson has been combating the decline of the natural family by educating our fellow citizens about the importance of adhering to the truths of our Western heritage. His expertise in the area of family and population issues is a much welcomed asset to Hillsdale College.”
Carlson’s inaugural course at Hillsdale will be a seminar titled, “Intellectual History of the Natural Family in Western History.”
He holds a Ph.D. in modern European history and is the author of 10 books and hundreds of articles dealing primarily with the family and population issues. Carlson commented, “I am delighted by this new affiliation with a college known for its commitment to autonomy, liberty and the heritage of Western Civilization.”
Professor Carlson, who is also the president of the Howard Center for Family, Religion & Society, added: “A half-teaching load will allow me to continue supervising the work of both the World Congress of Families and The Howard Center. Since both the Center and my home will remain in Rockford, I will be commuting on a regular basis. Still, I am delighted by the opportunity to return to the classroom.”
