Charger volleyball team finishes 3-1 at season-opening Ferris State University Invitational
Booms, Dow named to All-Tournament Team
August 30, 2008 - The Hillsdale College volleyball team left the Ferris State University court with a sour taste in its mouth, after losing 3-0 to No. 8 Minnesota-Duluth. The Chargers took out those frustrations on their two Saturday opponents at the tournament.

The No. 18 Chargers put together two fine performances in Saturday's matches, defeating Indiana (Pa.) and Urbana by identical 3-0 scores.

The Chargers beat Urbana by scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 26-14. The team swept Indiana 25-14, 25-10 and 25-18.

Senior setter Stephanie Booms and sophomore defensive specialist Sydney Dow were each named to the All-Tournament Team.

Statistics from each match should be available early next week.

FRIDAY RECAP
The Hillsdale College volleyball team needed five sets to record its first win in its first match of the season Friday afternoon.

The Chargers defeated Mercyhurst College 3-2 in the first match of the 2008 Ferris State University Invitational Friday afternoon. The Chargers won the first set 25-17 before losing the next two, 25-21 and 25-19. Hillsdale came back to win the fourth and fifth sets by wide margins, 25-15 and 15-4, respectively.

In the team's second match of the day, No. 8-ranked University of Minnesota-Duluth swept Hillsdale 3-0. UM-D won the sets by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-23.

The Chargers will have matches against Urbana (Ohio) at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, followed by a noon match against Indiana (Pa.) in Big Rapids.

Hillsdale's home opener of the 2008 season will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday vs. Lake Erie College.
