Charger volleyball team solidifies hold on first place in division with 3-0 sweep of Findlay
September 16, 2008 - For the first time in 10 years, the Hillsdale College volleyball team walked away from the Croy Gymnasium at the University of Findlay with a 3-0 sweep Tuesday night.

The Chargers, ranked 19th in the country and winners of six in a row, won the match by scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-23. Hillsdale is 11-2 on the season and 3-0 in the GLIAC South Division. The team will play its first road conference matches this weekend, at Northwood Friday night and at Wayne State Saturday afternoon.

Hillsdale took advantage of 13 service errors by the Oilers to stay ahead throughout most of all three sets. Hillsdale was plus-five on its service ace-to-error ratio during the match.

Five players had four or more kills for Hillsdale, led by 10 from freshman Clara Leutheuser. She hit .412 for the match and finished with 10.5 points.

The reigning GLIAC South Player of the Week, Ashlee Crowder, led the team with 11.5 points, and had seven kills and two service aces.

The Chargers had 34 kills as a team in the match compared to just 13 errors. The team held Findlay to a .091 attack percentage in the second set.

Junior Kittrick Smith played another strong match with seven kills, two digs and eight points. Sophomore Sydney Dow had a team-high 10 digs, while setters Stephanie Booms and Apryl Schmucker combined for 25 assists.
