Volleyball team to play three matches at this weekend's GLIAC/GLVC Challenge
Tournament held in Indianapolis
October 12, 2008 - The Hillsdale College volleyball team now knows its opponents for this weekend's GLIAC/GLVC Challenge news story imageTournament in Indianapolis.

The Chargers will face Rockhurst University at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17. Hillsdale will then play two matches Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. vs. the University of Missouri-St. Louis, then at 4 p.m. against Drury University.

This is the first time such a tournament has been held between these neighboring conferences. All matches in this tournament between all teams are regional matches, and will play a factor in regional rankings leading up to November's NCAA Division II regional tournament.

The matchups are determined by where teams in both conferences are in their respective conference standings. The GLIAC standings are determined by overall conference record, regardless of division.

Missouri-St. Louis is in first place in the GLVC West Division, and is 16-4 overall, and 10-2 in league play. UMSL has some good wins to its credit, defeating nationally ranked Indianapolis.

Rockhurst is in second place in the GLVC West, with a 13-9 record. The last time Hillsdale played Rockhurst was in the 2005 NCAA Division II regional tournament. The Chargers lost to Rockhurst 3-0 in the tournament's first round, held that year at Grand Valley State University.

Drury is in third place in the GLVC West, and is 6-6 in the conference and 10-11 overall.
