October 25, 2008 - The Hillsdale College volleyball team completed the road portion of its GLIAC schedule on a very good note Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers wonin dominating fashion over Tiffin University, 3-0, at Tiffin. Hillsdale is now 18-8 overall and 7-6 in the GLIAC South Divsion. The Chargers hold a half-game lead over Northwood for first place in the division, and have won five in a row overall.
Hillsdale won each set by scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-13. The Chargers hit .408 for the match, their second-highest attack percentage total for the season. Leading the way in that efficient offensive performance was a freshman who continues to perform at a very high level throughout the season.
Ashlee Crowder, a first-year outside hitter, tied a career-high with 17 kills and a .517 hitting percentage in the match. Crowder has recorded 10 or more kills in 24 of the team's 26 matches this season. She also had four digs in the match.
Junior Kitt Smith played one of her most efficient matches of the season with 10 kills and just one error. She hit .310 for the match.
Senior setter Stephanie Booms compiled 38 assists to go along with four service aces and five digs. Freshman Clara Leutheuser anchored the front row with four solo blocks and three block assists in a match that saw her also go for five kills.
Sophomore Sydney Dow had 15 digs for the Chargers.
It figures to be a festive atmosphere at the Jesse Philips Arena Friday night, when the Hillsdale College volleyball team celebrates Halloween Night with a home match against the University of Findlay. The match starts at 7 p.m.
