Hillsdale College Freshmen Win Debate Tournament
Freshmen Josiah Hersey and Samantha Nasser won the junior varsity division of parliamentary debate at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, over the weekend of October 24-26. They beat a field of 16 teams from William Jewell College, Wheaton College, Rice University, Truman State University, Carthage College, Louisiana Tech, and Longview College. Hersey also secured 2nd speaker and Nasser 5th best speaker in that division.

In the open division for parliamentary debate, Bryan Leonard and Alexandria Carraher advanced to semi-finals where they lost to the top team from Truman University who went on to win the tournament. Leonard won 9th speaker overall at the tournament. Olivia Wolcott and William Cooney advanced to the round of 16, losing to Central Michigan University who took 2nd place at the tournament. Other colleges in the open division included: Creighton University, Carleton College, Carthage College, Grinnell University, Wheaton College, Louisiana Tech, Truman State University, and William Jewell College.

The debate team is hosting the 2nd Annual Richard M. Weaver Debate Tournament on campus Oct. 31-Nov. 1. The team travels next to Loyola University in Chicago the first week of December.
