Volleyball team falls to Wayne State in regular season finale
Chargers travel to Wayne State for first tournament match
November 8, 2008 - The regular season is now finished, and the postseason will begin for the Hillsdale College volleyball team against a familar foe.

The Chargers lost at home to Wayne State 3-1 Saturday news story imageafternoon at Jesse Philips Arena. Hillsdale is now 19-10 overall and finishes conference play 8-8. As a result of the match, the Chargers will now travel to Wayne State in the first round of the GLIAC volleyball tournament Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Detroit.

The Chargers struggled with their hitting percentage throughout the match, finishing with a .095 mark, one of its lowest percentages of the season. Hillsdale had a rare negative hitting percentage (-.026) in the third set.

Wayne State won the first set 25-23, before falling to the Chargers in the second set 25-22. The Warriors controlled the play throughout the third and fourth sets, winning 25-17 and 25-18.

Hillsdale committed 11 more attack errors than the Warriors (30-19), and allowed nine service aces to the Warriors.

Freshman Ashlee Crowder was the only Hillsdale player to record double figures in kills, finishing with 16 in the match. Junior Kitt Smith added eight kills for Hillsdale.

Freshman Apryl Schmucker played another solid all-around match, with five kills, seven assists, two service aces and 11 digs. Senior Stephanie Booms, playing the final home match of her incredible career, had 33 assisst, seven digs and two kills. Sophomore Sydney Dow led the Chargers with 19 digs.
