Women's basketball team routs Kalamazoo College in exhibition game
November 11, 2008 - Every player on the Hillsdale College women's basketball roster scored Tuesday night, as the Chargers defeated Kalamazoo College in an exhibition game, 90-37 in the Jesse Philips Arena.

The game and statistics won't count in the final season total for the 2008-09 Chargers, but the team showed the kind of talent and intensity that make it worthy of its No. 17 national ranking to open this new season.

Playing against the Division III Hornets, the Chargers picked up where they left off last season, when they achieved the best record in school history. Hillsdale led by as many as 55 points in the game, and every player played at least 10 minutes in the news story imagecontest.

Senior forward Katie Cezat, who was a First-Team All-American a year ago, led all players with 24 points and nine rebounds. Cezat shot 9-for-11 from the field, collected five offensive rebounds, and was 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Fellow seniors Claire Aubrey and Katie Eckinger were also very productive in their time on the court. Aubreyhad 10 points, three rebounds and three assists in 19 minutes. Eckinger was 6-for-10 from the field and finished with 13 points in the game.

The team's four freshmen played together for several minutes in the second half, and acquitted themselves extremely well. The group showed athleticism, quickness and a nice shooting touch.

In just 10 minutes on the floor, freshman Courtney Ferguson scored six points to go along with two rebounds and two assists. Katie Bildner played an excellent defensive game to go along with five points, three rebounds and four steals.

Liz Brannick was 3-for-6 from the field, and had six points and three rebounds. The team's fourth freshman, Chelsea Harrison, was aggressive on both ends of the court, and had five points, four rebounds and five assists.

Returning starter Janay Miller had eight points and three steals, while sophomore Laura Barczak was tough inside with six rebounds.

Hillsdale had 18 steals as a team compared to four for Kalamazoo. The Chargers dished out 23 assists on 36 field goals, and held the Hornets to 36 percent shooting for the game.
