Ashlee Crowder named GLIAC Volleyball Freshman of the Year
Stephanie Booms earns First-Team honors
November 15, 2008 - For the third time in her distinguished career, Charger senior volleyball player Stephanie Booms was named First-Team All-GLIAC. The all-conference teams were announced by the GLIAC office at Grand Valley State University Saturday night.

Freshman Ashlee Crowder was named the GLIAC's Freshman of the Year. Crowder was the first Hillsdale player since Taryn Rudland in 2003 to win that award.

Crowder and sophomore libero Sydney Dow were named Second-Team All-GLIAC, while junior Emily Bennett earned honorable mention All-GLIAC honors.

Booms finished her career as Hillsdale's all-time leader in assists with 4,640 in her career. She was named First-Team All-GLIAC following the 2006 and 2007 seasons, and earned honorable mention accolades after her freshman season of 2005.

Booms also finished on Hillsdale's career top-10 list in digs and total blocks. She helped lead the Chargers to 83 wins in her four-year career.

Crowder set a new freshman record for kills in a season for Hillsdale, with 333. She averaged 3.43 kills per set, which was fourth in the conference at the end of the regular season. She had 10 or more kills in the team's final 10 straight matches, including career-highs of 17 twice, against Saginaw Valley State and at Tiffin.

Dow became the team's starting libero this season, and improved in all areas in 2008. She led the GLIAC in digs per set with 4.57, and was one of the team's most consistent servers and passers.

Bennett had her best season with the Chargers in 2008, finishing the regular season as the GLIAC leader in hitting percentage with a .367 clip. She had a career-high 17 kills at Ashland on Oct. 24, and had a plus-five kill-to-error ratio 12 times throughout the season.
