
Charger women's basketball team signs three incoming freshmen for 2009-10 season
November 21, 2008 - Although the 2008-09 season has just gotten underway, Hillsdale College women's basketball coach Claudette Charney has already signed three players who will join the team for the 2009-10 season. All three players come from very successful prep programs, and all three have been among the top players on those teams for more than one season.
Joining the program next year will be Emily Anderson (Heritage Christian High School/Carmel, Ind.), Kelsey Raczak (Utica, Mich./Henry Ford II High School), and Michelle Lindsey (Bloomfield Hills Marian High School).
Anderson is a highly decorated student-athlete from Indianapolis' Heritage Christian High School. A 5-foot-8 guard, Anderson will enter her fourth year as a starter on the school's basketball team, and has led the team to three straight state championships. She was voted the most valuable player by the Associated Press in the 2006 state championship game. She had 16 points, six rebounds, two steals and one blocked shot in that game.
She has increased her scoring average in each of her three seasons, including an 11.1 points per game average in 2007-08. She has been awarded the team's free throw accuracy award, and her coaches describe her as a player possessing of a very strong work ethic who can score effectively as well as accepting the team's toughest defensive assignments.
Anderson has also won a state championship with her AAU team in 2008. In the classroom, Anderson has an overall grade point average of 3.75 and has been a member of the National Honor Society for three years, and a member of the "gold" honor roll for three years. She also earned the school's Class Comedian of the Year award in 2005.
Raczak has been a standout basketball player at Henry Ford II High School in Macomb County for several seasons. Last year, she averaged 12.1 points per game, made 44 percent of her 3-point shots, and handed out two assists per game, leading her team to a 19-5 record.
She ranked sixth in the Basketball Coaches Association list of the state's top 10 3-point shooters, and was honorable mention All-County last year. She holds the school's record for 3-point field goals, and was First-Team All-Conference and earned Third-Team All-Metro East honors.
Raczak plays for the Wizards AAU team, and averaged 19 points per game in her last AAU season. She led her team in steals and assists.
Lindsey is a team captain and reigning MVP at one of the most successful girls basketball programs in the Detroit area, at Bloomfield Hills Marian.
In 2007-08, the Mustangs were 18-7 and were Catholic League and district champions. She averaged 16 points, four rebounds and three assists per game, and set a school record for scoring in a game with 34.
She was named the Athlete of the Month by the Oakland Press in January 2008, and went on to be named First-Team All-Metro North by the Detroit Free Press, as well as Fourth-Team Class A All-State.
Current Hillsdale College senior Claire Aubrey also attended Marian High School.
