Chargers continued their undefeated start to this season.
Hillsdale defeated Urbana University 86-67 at the Jesse Philips Arena Tuesday night, improving its record to 7-0 on the season. The Chargers will return to GLIAC play Saturday with a road game vs. Ferris State University starting at 1 p.m.
Six players scored nine or more points for Hillsdale in a game it led from start to finish. The Chargers gradually built a 15-point lead by halftime and were never threatened by the Blue Knights.
Senior forward Katie Cezat (pictured) had a strong all-around game, helping to engineer the offense with her shooting as well as her passing. She finished with 23 points, eight rebounds, and a career-high seven assists. She also blocked two shots in 28 minutes of play.
One of Cezat's frontcourt teammates put together one of her best efforts of her career in the game. Sophomore forward Laura Barczak played with hustle and power in her 12 minutes on the court. She finished with a career-high 12 points, with four rebounds and two assists. She dominated play in the paint during her time on the court, and played excellent team defense.
Senior Claire Aubrey and junior Janay Miller each finished with 12 points, and were both key components in Hillsdale's transition offense. The Chargers outscored the Blue Knights 12-0 in fastbreak points in the game.
Senior Katie Eckinger drained 4-of-5 shots from the floor and had nine points for Hillsdale. Freshman Elizabeth Brannick made the most of her seven minutes of playing time, scoring a career-high nine points, while getting two rebounds and a steal.
Hillsdale had previously cracked the Division II Top 25 poll in 2002-03, 2004-05 and 2007-08. The Chargers were ranked as high as 12th during an 11-0 start to the 2004-05 season, but never made it inside the top 10 until this season. All seven of Hillsdale's wins have come by 10 or more points, and the Chargers have scored at least 70 points in all seven games this season.
