Stephanie Booms named winner of prestigious GLIAC Commissioner's Award for the fall season
December 22, 2008 - Hillsdale College senior volleyball player Stephanie Booms concluded her athletic career last month as one of the most respected and decorated players in the program's history. Monday night, she added another award to her impressive resume.
Booms was named one of six female winners of the GLIAC Commissioner's Award. The award, originated in 2007-08, recognizes the most elite student-athletes in the entire conference, across all sports, each season.
A total of six male and six female athletes were chosen for the award. The pool of athletes were chosen from the GLIAC All-Academic list, also released Monday night.
Booms is a three-time Academic All-GLIAC selection, and was named First-Team All-GLIAC three times in her outstanding career. She was also named First-Team All-Region twice by the AVCA, and led the Chargers to 93 victories in her career, the most by any player in a four-year career in school history.
Booms is a biology major at Hillsdale College, with an overall grade point average of 3.897. She is scheduled to graduate in May and is currently applying to medical schools around the country.
