But Michigan Tech's men's team had different ideas, making several big plays down the stretch in a 69-61 victory over the Chargers Thursday night at Jesse Philips Arena. Hillsdale has now lost seven straight games and is 5-8 overall on the season. The Chargers are 3-6 in GLIAC play.

For the third game in a row, Hillsdale led at halftime, only to see its opponent step up its game in the second half to take a victory away from the Chargers.

Michigan Tech outscored Hillsdale 41-32 in the second half after a first half that saw Hillsdale get off to a great start and lead by as many as 12 points. The Chargers shot 38 percent in the second half and finished the game 4-for-21 from 3-point territory.

A pair of free throws from freshman Brad Guinane gave Hillsdale a 16-4 lead with eight minutes gone in the first half. The Chargers led for all but 37 seconds of the first half, and led 29-28 at intermission.

The Huskies outscored the Chargers 16-9 in the first six minutes of the second half to take a 44-38 lead. Hillsdale battled back into the lead by controlling the tempo of the game and getting the ball inside to its leading scorer, Tony Gugino.

Gugino set new career-highs by going 13-for-17 from the free throw line, en route to a game that saw him score 21 points to go along with nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Gugino went 8-for-8 from the line in a six-minute strech to help the Chargers regain a six-point lead, 58-52, with 5:12 left in the game.

But Michigan Tech finished the game on a 17-3 run, mixing up shots from different spots on the floor while suffocating Hillsdale's offense.

Guinane had 12 points and was 4-for-4 shooting from the floor in the game, to be Hillsdale's only other player in double-digit scoring.

Fedrick Bowe led Michigan Tech with 27 points, and was 13-for-14 from the free throw line.
