Senior Sarah Kauk breaks school record and provisionally qualifies and Notre Dame Opener
Kauk and Scheiwe provisionally qualify
The women’s track & field team proved to be tough competition for many of the Division I schools at the Notre Dame Opener on Friday night.

Senior tri-captain Sarah Kauk took 2nd place in the pole vault with a mark of 3.70m (12-01 ˝). That vault breaks her own school record set last year and improves her provisional qualifying mark for the season.

Sophomore Marta Scheiwe also earned a provisionally qualifying time in the 400m dash. Scheiwe took first place in the event with at time of 56.83. She also finished 4th in the 200m dash (25.37).

The Chargers also had a strong showing in the 800m run with three runners finishing in the top six. Leading the pack was freshman Jennifer Shaffer finishing in 2:24.65 for 3rd place.

In the mile freshman Amanda Putt finished in 6th place with a time of 5:07.57. She was just two seconds shy of a provisionally qualifying time. Sophomore Anna Leutheuser was also close to a provisionally qualifying mark in the weight throw. She took 3rd place with a throw of 15.57m (51-01).

Other top finishers for the women were Katie Hunt (60m hurdles, 6th) and Kathy Dirksen (Shot put, 6th and weight throw, 6th).
