Katie Cezat named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week for a sixth time in 2008-09
January 26, 2009 - Charger senior Katie Cezat has been named the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week for the sixth time this season. The award was announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
The award matches Cezat's Player of the Week total from 2007-08, bringing her career P.O.W. honors up to 12.
Last week, Cezat led Hillsdale to two wins on the road against South Division foes Ashland and Tiffin, setting records in each game. In Thursday's win over the Eagles, Cezat set the school's all-time career record for blocked shots. She now has 100 blocked shots in her career, and will set a new record with every block she gets from now on.
Saturday at Tiffin, Cezat lit up the Dragons for 35 points and a school-record 26 rebounds in the Chargers' 75-61 win. She hit 10-of-11 shots in the first half, and broke her own school record for rebounds in a game. She had previously set the record Jan. 26, 2008 against Gannon. In the first half at Tiffin, Cezat notched 24 points and 13 rebounds. She grabbed the record-setting rebound with 11 seconds left in the game.
Cezat has been named the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week in six out of 10 possible weeks in the 2008-09 season. No other player has come close to that many conference awards in that time span.
She currently leads the GLIAC in scoring average, rebounding average and blocked shots. She ranks second, first and first in the nation in those categories, respectively.
