January 29, 2009 - This time, it was the entire team's turn to set a record.
After a weekend of records set by senior Katie Cezat, the entire Hillsdale College team set a record for assists in a game in a 98-48 defeat of Saginaw Valley State University Thursday night at Jesse Philips Arena. The win is the fourth straight for the No. 7-ranked Chargers, who are now 16-2 overall and 11-2 in the

GLIAC. SVSU drops to 2-16 with the loss.
Hillsdale won the game with brutal efficiency, registering 34 assists on 40 made field goals. The previous record for team assists in a game came back on Nov. 21, 2000 when Hillsdale had 29 against Rochester College.
The Chargers also approached the team record for field goal percentage in a game. Hillsdale shot .615 in the contest, short of the team record of .660 vs. St. Francis on Dec. 8, 2001.
A 20-6 run in the first half by Hillsdale blew open a tie game, and the Chargers went into halftime with a 47-26 lead. The deficit never grew less than that in the second half, as Hillsdale played outstanding team offense.
Cezat played a big part in the team's assists record, finishing the game with six dimes, one short of her career high. She also went 13-for-16 from the field, and finished the game with 32 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and three steals. She also turned the ball over just once and made five of her six free throw attempts.
Fellow senior Katie Eckinger also had a brilliant game, making 7-of-8 shots from the floor on her way to 15 points and four assists. She did an excellent job of getting open in her comfortable spots on the floor, and made the Cardinal defense pay for all the attention it was showing Cezat on defense.
On defense, Hillsdale forced the Cardinals to turn the ball over 24 times, and held SVSU to 40 percent shooting from the floor. The 50-point margin of victory is the biggest of the season for the Chargers, and 11 different players scored points.
Junior Brooke Knight, the GLIAC leader in assists per game, helped her total considerably with a game-high 10 dimes. Senior Claire Aubrey also set a career-high with eight assists in the game, while junior Janay Miller had 11 points and three assists.
Hillsdale will travel to Lake Superior State University for a Saturday afternoon game against the Lakers starting at 1 p.m.
