Cezat goes for a season-high 37 in Charger's big win over Ferris State
Janay Miller ties career-high with 21
February 5, 2009 - The Ferris State University women's basketball team will be very pleased to not see Hillsdale's Katie Cezat for the rest of this regular season.

Cezat, the All-American senior forward for Hillsdale College, scored a season-high 37 points to go along with 11 rebounds, four blocks and four assists in the Chargers' 88-64 victory over the Bulldogs Thursday night at Jesse Philips Arena. Hillsdale is now on a six-game winning streak and is 18-2 overall and 13-2 in the GLIAC.

The 18th win in 20 games for this year's Charger team represents the best-ever 20-game record for the Hillsdale College women's basketball team. The 18-2 mark eclipses the 17-3 20-game record achieved by the 2002-03 Charger team.

In the last meeting between these two teams, Cezat racked up 36 points, 20 rebounds and a GLIAC-record 13 blocked shots. In two Hillsdale wins over Ferris State this season, Cezat has piled up a total of 73 points, 31 rebounds and 17 blocked shots. In Thursday's win, she went 14-for-22 from the floor and 9-for-10 from the free throw line in another incredible performance.

Hillsdale opened the game playing at one of its sharpest levels of the season. The Chargers had an 11-0 lead before the game was three minutes old, moving the ball quickly up the court, while burying the open jumpers the team manufactured.

Although the Bulldogs gathered themselves offensively and started making shots, they never drew closer than nine points in the game's final 37 minutes. Hillsdale scored 28 points off 19 Ferris State turnovers, and outshot the Bulldogs 53 percent to 38 percent from the field in the game.

Charger junior Janay Miller played a terrific game, tying her career-high with 21 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the field. She drained three 3-point field goals and also had three rebounds, three assists and four steals. Miller played with energy and intelligence at both ends of the court, breaking up several Ferris State fast-break opportunities while making good decisions with her shot selection on offense.

As a team, Hillsdale was 7-for-11 form 3-point land, and 17-for-21 from the free throw line, both keys in preventing Ferris State from cutting into the lead at any point in the contest.

Freshman guard Chelsea Harrison had 10 points and three rebounds while making all four of her free throws. Senior Katie Eckinger was very active in the first half, and finished with six points and six rebounds. Junior guard Brooke Knight played another smart basketball game, and had nine points, seven assists and three rebounds.

The Chargers will look for a little revenge Saturday afternoon, when they host one of two teams to defeat them this season, Grand Valley State University. Game time is 1 p.m. at Philips Arena.
