Player of the Week sweep: Katie Cezat and Tony Gugino earn conference basketball honors
February 9, 2009 - Coming off one of the most memorable basketball doubleheaders in recent memory at Hillsdale College, two of the Chargers' best players were honored by the GLIAC Monday afternoon.
Women's basketball player Katie Cezat and men's basketball player Tony Gugino were each named the GLIAC South Division Player of the week for their respective sports. The award is an incredible eighth of the season for Cezat.
Gugino led Hillsdale's men's basketball team to its first win over

Grand Valley State in five years with an outstanding performance Saturday. Gugino scored a season-high 29 points to go along with 10 rebounds as the Chargers edged the Lakers 86-83 in overtime. Gugino was 13-for-16 from the free throw line in the game.
Gugino currently ranks in the GLIAC's top 10 in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots. Last week, he also broke the career blocked shots record at Hillsdale College. He now has 181 blocks for his career, breaking the old record set by Bill Granberry back in 1985.
Cezat set new season-highs for points in a game twice last

week, leading the No. 7-ranked Chargers to wins over Ferris State and Grand Valley State. In Thursday's win over the Bulldogs, Cezat had 37 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. She improved on those numbers in Saturday's 75-66 win over the Lakers, lighting up GVSU to the tune of 38 points, 23 rebounds, four assists and four blocks.
Cezat is compiling one of the most remarkable seasons ever seen at Division II. She leads the nation in rebounding and blocked shots, and is second in scoring. She already owns four GLIAC single-season records (points, rebounds, free throws made, free throws attempted), and is five field goals away from holding that record as well. And there are six conference games left on the schedule.
