Tony Gugino named Men's Basketball GLIAC South Division Player of the Week for third time
February 23, 2009 - For the third time this season and sixth in his career, Charger senior center Tony Gugino was named the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week. The award was announced by the conference office Monday evening.
Gugino led the 14-10 Chargers to a two-game sweep in the Upper Peninsula last week, helping the team get one step closer to hosting its first-ever GLIAC Tournament game. Gugino set new season-highs in both points and rebounds, getting 30 and 16 in a dramatic 75-74 win over Northern Michigan University on Thursday. He helped Hillsdale come back from a 15-point deficit to upend the Wildcats.
Gugino needs 15 points to become the seventh player to crack the school's all-time top 10 list in both points and rebounds. Earlier this season, Gugino set the school record for blocked shots in a career.
Gugino and the Chargers will wrap up this regular season this week by hosting Tiffin Thursday night and Ashland Saturday afternoon.
