Katie Cezat named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week for 11th time
March 2, 2009 - It was only fitting that the final GLIAC South Division Player of the Week honor in women's basketball go to the player who has dominated the award in 2008-09.
Charger senior Katie Cezat was named the division's player of the week for the 11th time this season. The award was announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
In a season of mind-boggling numbers, Cezat took it to an entirely new level last week, averaging 40 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and three blocked shots per game in two wins by the Chargers over Tiffin and Ashland.
Cezat set a new season-high in scoring with 39 points against the Dragons Thursday night, but managed to top that on Senior Day Saturday against Ashland. She torched the Eacgles for 41 points and 17 rebounds in a game where the Chargers set a new school record for wins in a season (24).
Cezat's 11 Player of the Week honors will likely never be duplicated. She set seven single-season GLIAC records, a mark that was established after the conclusion of conference play on Saturday. She also won the last six consecutive player of the week awards in the conference.
