TOURNAMENT PREVIEW STORY AND INFORMATION
March 8, 2009 - Fresh off its 2009 GLIAC Tournament championship, the Hillsdale College women's basketball team will match up against the University of Indianapolis in the first round of the 2009 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament.

The tournament will be hosted by Northern Kentucky University, located in Highland Heights, Ky., and the game will be played at 2:30 p.m. Friday. If the Chargers win, they would play the winner of the Quincy-Drury game at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 14. The regional final will be played at 7 p.m. Monday, March 16.

All of the Midwest Regional games will be webcast through the NCAA's website. Log onto NCAAsports.com around game time and look for links that refer to the Division II women's basketball regional games.

Hillsdale, 27-3 on the season, has already played the Greyhounds (20-9) once this season. The Chargers topped UIndy 77-63 on Saturday, Nov. 28 at the University of Indianapolis Thanksgiving Tournament.

This marks the fourth all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the Chargers, who previously qualified for postseason play in 2002, 2003 and 2008. The Chargers earned the GLIAC's automatic berth in the postseason tournament thanks to their 81-69 win over Michigan Tech Saturday night in Houghton.

Hillsdale College senior Katie Cezat was named the tournament MVP after piling up 35 points, 15 rebounds and six assists in the team's win over the Huskies in the championship game. She leads all of NCAA Division II in rebounding, blocked shots and field goals made, and ranks second in the nation in free throws made and scoring average. She shares or holds 19 school records and 12 GLIAC records, and on Saturday, set the all-time Division II women's basketball record for double-doubles in a season with her 27th such game.

Junior guards Brooke Knight and Janay Miller were also named to the GLIAC All-Tournament Team.

The other first-round Midwest matchups are as follows: 1. Northern Kentucky vs. 8. Grand Valley State; 4. Michigan Tech vs. 5. Northwood; and 3. Quincy vs. 6. Drury.

Two of the first-round matchups pair conference rivals. Quincy and Drury are both members of the GLVC, while Michigan Tech and Northwood were two of the better teams in the GLIAC this season. Tech and Northwood have not met since the month of December.

A year ago, the Chargers lost their first-round game to Quincy. This is the third straight time Hillsdale enters the NCAA Tournament as the No. 2 seed in its bracket.
