Herbert H. Dow II Program in American Journalism Director Tracy Lee Simmons spoke at a conference, "President Barack Obama and the Lessons of Antiquity," held at Grand Valley State University's Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies in Grand Rapids on April 16-17. Scholars at the conference examined the challenges the president is facing in relation to the historical lessons from ancient writers. Simmons's presentation focused on the classical education of Thomas Jefferson and how it shaped his presidency. The conference was covered by C-SPAN.
