Hemingway came to Hillsdale through the school’s fellowship program with the Hillsdale Community Health Center. He’s also performed athletic training duties at several area high schools, including Pittsford, Camden-Frontier and Jonesville.

Hemingway has extensive experience in the athletic training field at the college level, having worked with several teams at Eastern Michigan University. He was part of the training staff for the school’s football and women’s track and field teams. He got to experience EMU’s MAC West Division championship season in baseball during the 2007 season.

A 1998 graduate of Waterford Kettering High School, Hemingway interned at the Athletic Training Room at the Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Murray, Utah from January through April of 2008. He worked with many varieties of athletes, from cyclists to members of the USA Rugby team. He also gained experience working with area residents of Murray through the organization’s rehabilitation program.

Hemingway, 29, was hired by new Head Athletic Trainer Lynne Neukom, who calls him “very dedicated to his work. Gus does a fine job of handling the training needs of all Hillsdale College athletes.” Hemingway has a bachelor of science in athletic training from Eastern Michigan University.

“I couldn’t have arrived at Hillsdale College at a better time,” Hemingway remarks. “My first year here, I was able to work with the women’s basketball team and witness Katie Cezat shatter records and win more awards than I thought possible. I look forward to working with all the other student-athletes, who through hard work and dedication, will make their mark on the school’s history books.”

Hemingway’s hobbies include mountain biking, camping, hiking, small-boat sailing, music and disc golf. He’s also competed in several mountain biking competitions through his life. He resides in Hillsdale.
