Sept. 20, 2009 - After more than a month of training and preparation, the Hillsdale College men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Kenosha, Wisconsin over the weekend to compete in a Pre-Regional meet, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
The Charger men's team finished third in a very strong field of teams, with 104 points. Hillsdale finished behind Division I schools Louisville and Marquette, and ahead of Division I schools like North Dakota State and UW-Milwaukee.
Individually, senior Timothy Howse was the Chargers' top runner at the meet, taking 10th place with a time of 25:45.5. Three places later came Jacob Secor, who finished the race in 25:56.
Alex Ralston and Chuck Wysong took third and fourth on the team, both finishing in the top 27 overall.
The women's cross country team also finished in fourth place with 122 team points. The Chargers were the highest-finishing GLIAC team at the meet, and bested Division I North Dakota State at the meet.
Three runners finished in the top 25 overall for Hillsdale, led by Melissa TenKate (18:39), Ashley Quick (18:44) and senior captain Erin Cvengros (18:58). Having that many runners beat the 19-minute barrier this early in the season was a big positive coming out of Saturday's meet.
