Sept. 21, 2009 - Senior placekicker Mark Petro was named the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week Monday after a terrific performance Saturday night. The award was announced by the conference office Monday morning.
Petro was 3-for-3 on field goal attempts and 2-for-2 on extra-point tries in the Chargers' 23-0 victory over the University of Indianapolis Saturday night at Muddy Waters Stadium. His perfect kicking game was just the latest effort in a season that has put Petro to the head of the class among kickers in the GLIAC.
He is the only kicker in the conference averaging more than 10 points per game (10.5) through the first month of the season. He has been nearly perfect, connecting on 12-of-13 extra points and 10-of-11 field goal attempts. His 42 points are nine more than any other kicker in the GLIAC.
In 2008, Petro was named the conference's special teams player of the week twice, and was named Second-Team All-GLIAC at the conclusion of the season.
Petro played his prep football at Lutheran West High School in Rocky River, Ohio.
