October 3, 2009 - The Ferris State University volleyball team executed at a high level all day Saturday, and came away from Hillsdale College's Jesse Philips Arena with a 3-1 victory over the Chargers.

Hillsdale remains in first place in the GLIAC South Division, and is 14-3 overall with a 7-2 conference mark. The Chargers are on the road for two straight weeks, starting with next weekend's matches at Saginaw Valley State and Lake Superior State.
The Chargers took advantage of 14 combined service and attack errors by the Bulldogs to win the first set 25-20. But from that point, FSU sharpened its execution on offense and with its defensive passing game to keep control of the match.
After a .079 team attack percentage in the first set, Ferris State had a combined 30 kills and just four errors in sets two and three, winning those by scores of 25-18 and 25-19.
The Chargers took the early lead in the fourth set, leading by as many as seven points (14-7). But Ferris State went on a 10-5 run to close out the fourth set, in a 27-25 victory.
The Chargers hit below .200 in all four sets in the match, and committed 26 attack errors, tied for the second-most in a single match this season. Ferris State hit .323 or better in each set it won during the match.
Sophomore Ashlee Crowder was the only Hillsdale player in double digits in kills with 16. Sophomore Clara Leutheuser hit .300 and finished with nine kills andf two block assists. Junior Amanda Bigney matched Leutheuser's nine kills, and freshman Lauren Grover had six kills, hit .333 and had one solo block.
Sophomore Apryl Schmucker handed out 37 assists and had nine digs and two kills. Junior Sydney Dow led Hillsdale with 18 digs. Dow and sophomores Brogan Wells and Morgan Podkul each had two service aces for Hillsdale.
Ferris State has now defeated Hillsdale three consecutive times, the longest current losing streak the Chargers have against any GLIAC opponent.
