Women's cross country team runs to third-place finish at Michigan Intercollegiate Meet
October 9, 2009 - Each year, college cross country teams from Michigan gather near Grand Rapids for statewide bragging rights. The Hillsdale College women's cross country team stood tall with the best teams at Friday's meet.
The Charger women, who have been ranked in the top 25 all season, finished in third place at the Michigan Intercollegiate Meet with 130 team points. Hillsdale's third-place finish was better than Division I schools Michigan State, Central Michigan and Western Michigan at the meet.
Hillsdale's top two runners finished 14th and 15th overall, one second apart. Erin Brunko was the team's best runner at the meet, finishing with a time of 18:40. One second behind her was Ashley Quick, who was 15th with a time of 18:41.
All five Hillsdale runners who scored finished among the top 43 overall at the meet.
Hillsdale's men's team took ninth place with a team score of 250 points.
Timothy Howse was the Chargers' top finisher with a time of 26:08, 26th place overall.
Hillsdale's next two runners finished 52nd, 54th and 56th overall in the race. The trio was led by Cameron Blaauw (26:53), followed by Chuck Wysong (26:54) and Jacob Secor (26:54).
