Sophomore DB Nick Hixson (pictured) and senior PK Mark Petro earned GLIAC honors on Monday afternoon. Hixson was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week, while Petro earned his second Special Teams Player of the Week honor of the season.

Hixson led the team with 14 total tackles, including six solo stops and a tackle-for-loss in the Chargers' homecoming win over the Lakers. He also returned five kickoffs for a total of 135 yards, giving Hillsdale good field position throughout the game.

Petro continues to lead the conference's kickers in scoring, and delivered more points Saturday. He booted field goals of 45 and 21 yards, and was 3-for-3 on extra point attempts. He is averaging 9.1 points per game, nearly a point-and-a-half better than any other kicker in the conference.

Hixson hails from Remus, Mich. and played his high school ball at Chippewa Hills High School. Petro played at Lutheran High School in Rocky River, Ohio.

Hillsdale defeated Grand Valley State for the first time since Oct. 15, 1994, while ending the Lakers' 45-game GLIAC winning streak. The Chargers will play at 6-1 Northern Michigan University this weekend.
