Good things come in threes: Ashlee Crowder named GLIAC South Division Player of the Week for third time
October 12, 2009 - Hillsdale College sophomore Ashlee Crowder was named the GLIAC South Division Player of the Week for the third time this season Monday afternoon. The award was announced by the GLIAC office.
Crowder led the Charger volleyball team to a pair of impressive victories on the road, at Saginaw Valley State and Lake Superior State, over the weekend. The two wins kept the Chargers in first place in the GLIAC South Division.
Crowder had 14 kills in Friday's 3-0 sweep over the Cardinals, the first-place team in the North Division at the time. She added 12 kills with just two errors in Hillsdale's 3-0 win over the Lakers Saturday afternoon.
For the season, Crowder leads the GLIAC with 4.53 kills per set. No other player is averaging more than four kills per set.
She has recorded 10 or more kills in 18 of the 19 matches the team's played this season, showing remarkable consistency and production from her outside hitter position.
Hillsdale heads into this weekend's GLIAC/GLVC Crossover Tournament as the number one overall seed from the GLIAC. The Chargers will take on three top contenders from the GLVC, St. Joseph's, Indianapolis and Northern Kentucky, in the two-day event held at Aim High in Lansing.
2008 Hillsdale College graduate and former First-Team All-American Melissa Bartlett is the only player to win more conference player of the week awards (four) than Crowder in one season. Crowder was named the AVCA Division II Naitonal Player of the Week earlier this season as well.
Crowder played her high school volleyball at Jenison.
