October 26, 2009 - Junior wide receiver Andre Holmes scored Hillsdale's first three touchdowns Saturday. That was enough to receive his first-ever GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honor. The award was announced by the conference office late Sunday

night.
Holmes was the spark that carried the Chargers to a great start in Saturday's 45-14 win over Wayne State. He caught three touchdown passes in the first half and finished the game with five receptions for 119 yards and a career-high three TD catches. His last score was a 68-yard catch, where he outran three defenders on his way to the end zone.
Three different players have been named Offensive Player of the Week from Hillsdale this season. Running back Vinnie Panizzi and quarterback Troy Weatherhead have also earned the honor earlier in the season, making the Chargers the only team who can claim three GLIAC Offensive Players of the Week on their team.
Holmes is second in the conference in both receptions per game and receiving yards per game. He has 68 catches for 836 yards and six touchdowns this season. His 68 catches are third in school history for a single-season, and his reception yardage currently ranks fifth in school history for one season.
Hillsdale is current 7-2 on the season and is ranked 25th in the nation. The Chargers are likely to move up in the new top 25 poll, which will be released Monday afternoon. This weekend, Hillsdale travels to Ferris State for a 2 p.m. game vs. the Bulldogs.
Holmes played his high school football at James B. Conant High School in Elk Grove, Illinois.
