Charger swimming team has successful home opener in win over Northern Michigan
October 31, 2009 - The Hillsdale College women's swimming team put together an excellent all-around performance in defeating Northern Michigan University 135-90 Saturday afternoon in Hillsdale.

It was the first home meet of the season for the Chargers, and third meet overall.

The Chargers got noteworthy times from both veteran and freshman swimmers. Senior Meredith Scott won the 100 breaststroke, while junior Alicia LeDuc easily won the 100 backstroke, improving on her times from a similar point during the 2008-09 season.

Several members of this year's freshman class have made an early impact on the team, and Saturday's meet was no exception. Freshman Sarah Leitner earned two first-place finishes, as did national qualifier Linda Okonkwski. Freshman Sami Ward performed well in the 500 freestyle, while Katie Lamb and Lauren Burt were singled out by coach Kurt Kirner for their excellent times.

"Good for us to bounce back like we did after an average meet last week," Kirner noted.
