Charger women's basketball team notches first win of season in dramatic fashion, 75-74
Hillsdale tops Lake Superior State for fourth straight time
December 3, 2009 - Rarely has a first win of a season felt as good as Thursday night's game did for the Hillsdale College women's basketball team.

Holding off a late rally, the Chargers earned their first "W" of the 2009-10 season with a 75-74 win over Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie. Hillsdale is now 1-0 in the GLIAC and 1-4 overall, and will travel to Saginaw Valley State for a Saturday afternoon tilt with the Cardinals.

A 3-point attempt at the buzzer fell short for the Lakers, who came back from a 14-point deficit in the second half, but were never able to take the lead against the Chargers. Hillsdale has now defeated LSSU four times in a row dating back to the start of the 2008-09 season.

Hillsdale opened the game on fire, quickly building a big lead over the host Lakers. The Chargers made 10 of their first 13 field goal attempts, and led the game 32-14 with seven minutes left in the first half.

Hillsdale was able to maintain a big lead through much of the second half, and held a 57-43 lead with 12 minutes left in the game.

LSSU went on a 22-11 run to make it a three point game, but would get no closer until the game ended.

Hillsdale finished the game with a 15-5 edge on the Lakers on offensive rebounds, and shot 50 percent from the field for the game.

Sophomore Katie Bildner scored the Chargers' final points of the game, and set a new career-high with 12 rebounds for Hillsdale. Four of her boards were on the offensive end, and she scored eight points.

Senior guard Brooke Knight once again played all 40 minutes, and was a major factor in all areas of the game. She led the team with a career-high 21 points, to go along with 10 assists and four rebounds. She only had three turnovers in the entire game.

Junior Laura Barczak also set a new career-high in points, with 20 in just 22 minutes of play. She made nine-of-13 shots from the floor, and was an important part of Hillsdale's good start to the game. She also had six rebounds and three assists.

Senior Janay Miller also had a very good shooting game (8-for-14) and had 18 points for Hillsdale.
