December 3, 2009 - After holding a two-point halftime lead, the Hillsdale College men's basketball team was outscored 35-28 in the second half of a 65-60 loss to Lake Superior State University Thursday night.
The Chargers, who have played all five of their games this season on the road, are 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the GLIAC. The team will head to Saginaw Valley State University for a 7:00 game Saturday night.
A key to the second half reversal was the Lakers' ability to defend Hillsdale. The Chargers shot just 23 percent in the second half and were 1-for-15 from 3-point territory in the game's final 20 minutes.
On the other side of the floor, LSSU's Scott Perkins exploded for a game-high 38 points. He hit five 3-point field goals and shot 15 free throws in a well-played offensive game for the Lakers.
Sophomore Brent Eaton hit three 3-point baskets and led the Chargers with 18 points in the game. Senior Luke Laser and sophomore Tyler Gerber each had 10 points for Hillsdale. Sophomore Brad Guinane grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.
LSSU outrebounded Hillsdale 35-24, negating the Chargers' nine turnovers, the fewest they've had in a game this season.
