December 12, 2009 - After playing six straight games on the road, the Hillsdale College men's basketball team played in front of the home folks for the first time Saturday afternoon.
But the Ferris State's men's basketball team spoiled the party with tough, aggressive play in a 78-67 win over the Chargers Saturday afternoon at Jesse Philips Arena. Hillsdale is now 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the GLIAC, and will play the defending Division II national champion Findlay Thursday night.
The Bulldogs pulled out to a 28-12 lead early in the second half, and withstood a few rallies by the Chargers and never let the lead drop below six points.
Hillsdale struggled getting good shots off against the Bulldog defense, and Ferris State did an excellent job of exploiting their matchup advantages.
Ferris State's Justin Keenan was a preseason All-American pick by many publications, and lived up to that billing in this game. He scored 32 points and had nine rebounds, while going 14-for-19 from the free throw line. Guard Dorian Gay added 20 to the Bulldog attack.
Charger senior Luke Laser played a consistent offensive game throughout, and led the team with a season-high 25 points, going 8-for-12 from both the field and the free throw line. Sophomore Tyler Gerber had 13 points and five assists for Hillsdale.
