December 17, 2009 - Although only one starter returned from last year's undefeated national championship team, the University of Findlay men's basketball squad played like champions against Hillsdale College Thursday night.
The Oilers went on a 24-4 run to end the first half on their way

to an 85-64 win over Hillsdale at Jesse Philips Arena. Hillsdale is now 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the GLIAC.
The Chargers haven't beaten Findlay's men's team since January 2002, and for a while, Hillsdale seemed in position to threaten that losing streak. The teams played an even opening 11 minutes of the game. A short jump shot by freshman center Nick Washburn gave the Chargers a 22-20 lead with a little more than nine minutes left in the first half.
But Findlay's Marcus Parker turned the tide of the game almost immediately. He buried two straight 3-point shots to get the long scoring run started for the Oilers. Findlay held Hillsdale without a point for 6:40 in the first half while it built its huge halftime lead. Parker hit four 3-point baskets during the run, showing the skill and big-time play that he had as a starter on last year's Oilers team.
A bright spot for Hillsdale in the second half was the play of sophomore center Kyle Jazwiecki, who scored a career-high 10 points, all coming in a short stretch of play in the second half. He converted a three-point play, then swished a 3-pointer from the top of the key as part of his 10-point outburst.
Sophomore Brent Eaton scored 18 points and made four 3-pointers to lead the Chargers in scoring. Washburn had 10 points and five rebounds in the game.
